'20 cops came at 4 am': AAP alleges Delhi Police took MLA Kuldeep Kumar to 'undisclosed location'

The AAP has accused Delhi Police of taking Kuldeep Kumar away amid a sanitation workers’ protest and alleged that the deceased worker’s cremation was being forced

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday alleged that Delhi Police took its East Delhi MLA Kuldeep Kumar to an "undisclosed location" early in the morning.

AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that around 20 policemen in plain clothes arrived at the MLA's residence at about 4 am and took him away. There was no immediate response from Delhi Police to the allegations.

"Today, at 4 am, around 20 policemen came in plain clothes and kidnapped AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar. He had been raising the voice of sanitation workers demanding compensation for the family. They demanded that CM Rekha Gupta meet the family, but instead of meeting the protesters, they have taken MLA Kuldeep Kumar to an undisclosed location," Bharadwaj said in a post on X.

AAP alleges pressure over cremation

Bharadwaj also accused Delhi Police of pressuring the family of a deceased sanitation worker to proceed with the cremation.

He alleged that the police was "forcibly performing the cremation of the deceased sanitation worker."

According to Bharadwaj, thousands of sanitation workers had been protesting for two days following the death of a sanitation worker. The protesters were seeking Rs 1 crore in compensation for the family.

He further claimed that the police had brought the deceased worker's body from the hospital to his home while the protest was continuing.

Sanitation workers demand compensation

Hundreds of sanitation workers and auto-tipper drivers from different parts of Delhi gathered at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital on Monday following the killing of Anil, a sanitation worker who was on duty in Kalyanpuri.

The protesters demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for Anil's family and a permanent government job for one member of the family.

They had refused to allow the body to be taken from the hospital mortuary for the last rites. The protesters also threatened to keep auto-tippers off Delhi's roads until their demands were addressed.

The allegations against the police came amid the continuing protest over the sanitation worker's death. Delhi Police had not issued an immediate response to the AAP's claims.
