'I get lot of threats': Trump confirms plane switch in Turkey after Secret Service warned of threat

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he switched aircraft during his recent visit to Turkey after the Secret Service and the US military advised him to do so, citing a possible threat.

Speaking to reporters after returning from Ohio, Trump said he did not seek extensive details about the threat and instead followed the advice of his security teams.

“I go by Secret Service and the military. They wanted me to go on a different flight, a different plane… I do what they say," Donald Trump said.

Trump also said he receives multiple threats, but did not provide details about the nature of the threat that led to the aircraft change.

“I guess there was a threat out there. I didn’t really ask too much about it. I get a lot of threats," he said.

Why did Trump switch planes in Turkey?

Trump’s comments came after reports about a series of aircraft changes during his recent trip to Turkey.

The US President had initially travelled on a Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar. He reportedly later switched to an older Air Force One aircraft following the alleged security threat.

A Washington Post report said Trump was then discreetly moved out of the older Air Force One in a catering container before being transferred to a smaller C-32A aircraft.

The White House had not initially provided an official explanation for the reported aircraft switches.

Trump says he trusts security advice

Trump said he did not feel the need to know all the details behind the security decision, saying such matters are handled by the Secret Service and military.

He also suggested that some of the threats against him are not publicly known.

“I get a lot of threats," Trump said.

The president then linked the threats he faces to what he described as his importance in office.

“Non-consequential Presidents don’t get threatened, and I think I’m maybe the most consequential President," Trump said.

The aircraft switch took place during Trump’s Turkey visit, where the unusual changes in his travel arrangements drew attention after reports emerged about the security concerns surrounding the president’s movement.
