Two arrested on charges of gangraping woman in Bengal's Bankura

West Bengal Police has arrested two men on charges of gangraping a woman who had gone for a motorbike ride with a friend on the outskirts of Bankura town, officials said on Monday.

Acting on the woman's complaint, police launched a manhunt and arrested the duo.

The two were produced before the Bankura district court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.

Accused arrested after manhunt

Police said the accused have been charged with gangrape, assault, and snatching valuables.

According to the complaint filed at Bankura Sadar police station, the woman said she had gone for a motorbike ride to Hariyalgada area on the outskirts of Bankura town on September 2, when the two accused accosted her and her friend.

She alleged that the men first assaulted her male friend and then raped her.

Police said the arrests followed a manhunt based on descriptions of the accused provided by the victim and her friend.
