Kolkata Law College Rape Survivor Expresses Confidence in Police Probe

Kolkata, July 10: The survivor of the South Calcutta Law College gang rape told the Calcutta High Court that she is “satisfied with the Kolkata Police investigation”, according to her lawyer. The court bench, comprising Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De, recorded this statement while reviewing the case’s progress and a sealed police report. During the hearing of several PILs seeking a CBI-monitored inquiry, the court examined the sealed progress report and directed a scanned copy to be shared with the survivor’s Advocate-on-Record. However, it cautioned against disclosing its contents publicly and called for an updated report in four weeks. The survivor was reportedly assaulted on June 25 inside a college security room. Four individuals—student Manojit Mishra and accomplices Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, along with a security guard—have been arrested. The case has drawn widespread attention, prompting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and increased scrutiny, including an expanded team and corroborating CCTV evidence.
