IMD forecasts heavy rain in south Bengal from July 23-27
Kolkata: The IMD on Monday forecast heavy to very rainfall in some districts of south Bengal from July 23-27, owing to the likely formation of a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal. The south Bengal districts of South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and Hooghly are likely to receive heavy to very rainfall during the period, the India Meteorological Department said in a bulletin. A low-pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around July 24, it said. In north Bengal, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are expected to receive heavy rainfall between July 25 and July 27, the bulletin said. The IMD forecast light to moderate rain in all the districts of West Bengal till July 27. In the past 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday, Balurghat received the highest rainfall in the state at 45 mm, the bulletin added.
