'I'm nowhere near done': Abhishek Banerjee’s striking post from the US

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has shared a striking photograph of his face from the US, showing a visible scar around his eye, along with a cryptic message that appears to refer to the challenges he has faced in recent months.

The picture shows only half of Banerjee’s face, with the focus on his eye and the area around it. Alongside the photograph, he wrote: "The scar tells you I've been through something. The eyes tell you I'm nowhere near done!"

The post comes during his ongoing visit to the US for eye treatment and amid several legal and political developments involving the TMC national general secretary.

Supreme Court allowed foreign travel

The Supreme Court last month allowed Banerjee to travel abroad for three weeks for eye treatment, setting aside a Calcutta High Court order that had refused to relax restrictions on his overseas travel.

The August 10 order said there was no serious impediment to the ongoing investigation from allowing Banerjee to travel abroad for treatment. The court directed him to provide details including his itinerary, place of stay, doctors or hospitals, return date and flight details.

The travel restriction was linked to a case involving an alleged provocative speech during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election campaign.

Investigations involving Banerjee, aide

The post also comes days after the West Bengal CID arrested Banerjee’s personal assistant Sumit Roy in connection with an alleged land-grab case in Salboni. Roy was arrested after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea and later remanded him to eight days of police custody.

Banerjee himself was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in June in connection with its investigation into alleged irregularities in the primary school recruitment process in West Bengal.

Earlier attack during Bengal visit

The TMC leader also faced a hostile crowd during a visit to Sonarpur in May, when he went to meet the family of a person affected by post-poll violence. Stones and eggs were thrown at him and slogans were raised. Security personnel moved him away from the spot amid the confrontation.

Banerjee’s latest post does not elaborate on the circumstances behind the photograph or identify the events he was referring to. Its message, however, comes at a time when the TMC leader remains involved in multiple legal and political developments.
