Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari meets RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat ahead of Durga Puja
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat in Purba Bardhaman, where the latter is on a three-day visit ahead of Durga Puja, officials said.
Adhikari arrived in Purba Bardhaman on Thursday evening and met Bhagwat at the local RSS office, where the Sangh chief is staying during his visit. Details of their discussions were not immediately available, and neither side publicly disclosed the agenda of the meeting.
Bhagwat begins Bengal visit
Bhagwat arrived at Kolkata airport on Thursday morning before travelling to Purba Bardhaman for a series of organisational engagements. His visit comes ahead of Durga Puja, one of West Bengal's most important festivals, and includes meetings with RSS functionaries from different parts of the state.
According to RSS sources, the Sangh chief is scheduled to interact with volunteers from north and south Bengal during his stay. He will also meet district-level office-bearers to review organisational activities and discuss priorities for the coming months.
Focus on organisational expansion
The meetings are expected to focus on strengthening the RSS network across West Bengal and drawing up an organisational roadmap, sources associated with the Sangh said. Discussions are likely to cover coordination among volunteers, district-level activities and the organisation's future programmes.
On Friday, Bhagwat is scheduled to meet representatives of various organisations associated with the RSS. The interactions form part of his three-day itinerary in the state, with organisational discussions expected to remain the principal focus.
Meeting held amid organisational review
The meeting between Adhikari and Bhagwat came as the RSS reviewed its organisational presence in West Bengal. However, there was no official confirmation that electoral politics, government policy or any specific administrative matter figured in their discussions.
The Sangh chief's visit is expected to conclude after the scheduled interactions with volunteers and affiliated organisations. Further details of the Chief Minister's meeting with Bhagwat were awaited.
