Yogi claims 1.27 crore Hindu voters missing from UP rolls, directs BJP workers to act

UP CM Yogi directs BJP workers to identify missing Hindu voters during SIR

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has claimed that 1.27 crore Hindu voters are missing from the state's electoral rolls, urging BJP leaders and workers to step up efforts to ensure that all eligible voters are registered ahead of the next Assembly elections.

Addressing the BJP state executive committee meeting in Lucknow on Friday, Adityanath described the alleged omissions as a matter of concern and asked party workers to remain vigilant during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He said the alleged exclusion of Hindu voters was weakening the BJP's position in 28 urban local body constituencies. Citing population figures, the Chief Minister argued that Uttar Pradesh should have more than 16 crore voters, whereas the current electorate stands at approximately 13 crore.

Adityanath also highlighted discrepancies between different voter databases, claiming that 66 lakh people whose names appeared on panchayat electoral rolls were missing from the Assembly constituency voter lists.

Similarly, he said 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes were not included in the electoral rolls. Around 4.5 lakh young people in the 18-19 age group were also allegedly missing from the lists.

The Chief Minister expressed concern over the previous SIR exercise, pointing out that only four lakh voters had been added to the state's electoral rolls during that revision.

Yogi assigns voter registration responsibility to BJP leaders

Adityanath instructed BJP workers to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and ensure that every eligible voter missing from the electoral rolls was registered. He also called for regular reviews of the exercise to monitor progress.

MPs, MLAs, assembly in-charges and other party office-bearers have been asked to take responsibility for identifying eligible voters whose names are missing, particularly Hindu voters, and facilitating their inclusion.

According to reports, the Chief Minister also asked party workers to use information available through the Kamal Sathi app to identify voters who may have been left out. He stressed that the responsibility of ensuring eligible citizens were included in the electoral rolls was an important organisational task.

He also called on BJP workers to strengthen their outreach at the booth level and counter the Opposition's narrative through social media.

Over 2 crore names deleted from UP electoral rolls after SIR

The Chief Minister's remarks come months after the Election Commission of India (ECI) published the final electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh following the SIR exercise.

According to the ECI data, more than 2.04 crore voters were removed from the state's electoral rolls, while over 84 lakh new voters were added. The final electorate stood at 13,39,84,792.

The deletions were largely concentrated in urban areas, with women accounting for a higher proportion of the names removed. Before the revision exercise, Uttar Pradesh had approximately 15.44 crore registered voters.

The draft electoral rolls published in January had reduced the electorate to around 12.55 crore. Following the claims and objections process, more than 84 lakh names were added to the final list, while over eight lakh additional names were removed.

The final electoral roll comprised approximately 7.30 crore male voters and 6.09 crore female voters, along with third-gender electors.

The Election Commission's published figures establish the overall changes in the electorate but do not independently substantiate Adityanath's claim that 1.27 crore Hindu voters are missing.

Yogi has raised concerns over missing Hindu voters before

This is not the first time Adityanath has expressed concern over the alleged exclusion of Hindu voters from electoral rolls. He has previously urged BJP workers to ensure that eligible voters' names are included in the lists.

At Friday's meeting, he reiterated the need for the party organisation to take an active role in identifying voters who may have been left out and ensuring that they complete the registration process.

The BJP's renewed focus on voter registration comes ahead of the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with the party seeking to strengthen its booth-level organisation and ensure that eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls.
