Yogi Adityanath announces 25% discount on khadi products, advocates Swadeshi movement
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a 25% discount on khadi products for 108 days, promoting the use of 'swadeshi' (Indian) goods. Speaking at a gathering at the Gandhi Ashram on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Adityanath advocated for swadeshi items to be prioritized, especially as gifts during festivals.
The chief minister emphasized the economic and social benefits of embracing local products, stating that it would create employment and contribute to the realization of a self-reliant India, aligning with Gandhi's vision of Gram Swaraj. He urged citizens to support the 'Vocal for Local' initiative and avoid foreign products.
Adityanath paid tribute to both Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who share the same birth anniversary, highlighting their contributions to the nation's independence and development. Gandhi, he said, was instrumental in ending British rule, while Shastri's leadership brought food security and demonstrated India's strength during the 1965 war.
During his visit, Adityanath spun the charkha, listened to bhajans, and purchased khadi products via online payment, showing his personal commitment to the swadeshi movement. He also praised the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by Prime Minister Modi, for continuing Gandhi's legacy of cleanliness and dignity, particularly through empowering women by constructing toilets in over 12 crore homes.
Adityanath remarked that self-reliance is key to a nation's strength, citing examples from countries like the US, Germany, and Japan. He concluded by noting that India, under PM Modi's leadership, is working towards self-sufficiency and economic independence, reinforcing Gandhi's principles of Swadeshi and empowerment.
