UP Assembly revokes SP MLA Sachin Yadav’s suspension after Monsoon Session

Speaker withdraws action against Samajwadi Party legislator after House proceedings conclude, ending suspension imposed during stormy Monsoon Session

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday revoked the suspension of Samajwadi Party MLA Sachin Yadav following the adjournment of the Monsoon Session, bringing an end to the disciplinary action taken against the Opposition legislator during the proceedings. Yadav had been suspended from the House following disorder during the session, which witnessed repeated confrontations between the ruling BJP and the Samajwadi Party over a range of issues.

The decision to withdraw the suspension came after the Assembly completed its scheduled business and the Monsoon Session was adjourned. With the revocation, Yadav will be able to participate in subsequent proceedings of the Assembly without the restrictions imposed by the earlier disciplinary action.

Suspension followed House disruption

The SP legislator's suspension had followed heated exchanges inside the Assembly as Opposition members protested against the government. The proceedings saw frequent clashes between the treasury and Opposition benches, with Speaker Satish Mahana repeatedly asking members to maintain order and allow legislative business to continue. Yadav was among the Opposition legislators at the centre of the confrontation. His conduct during the proceedings led to action from the Chair and his subsequent suspension from the House.

The Samajwadi Party had objected to the action against its legislator, maintaining that Opposition members had the right to raise issues concerning the public on the floor of the Assembly. The ruling side, however, maintained that legislators were required to follow parliamentary rules and that protests could not be allowed to disrupt the functioning of the House.

Stormy Monsoon Session ends

The Monsoon Session saw the government and Opposition spar over several political and governance issues, with SP members repeatedly targeting the Yogi Adityanath government. The ruling BJP defended its record and accused the Opposition of attempting to disrupt proceedings instead of participating in legislative debate.

The withdrawal of Yadav's suspension following the conclusion of the session effectively closes the disciplinary episode ahead of the next sitting of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. The move also means the SP legislator will face no continuing bar on attending future sessions arising from the suspension imposed during the Monsoon proceedings.
