Two UP cops, two CRPF personnel arrested over alleged 'gangrape' of woman in Amroha

Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were arrested Wednesday after a 23-year-old woman accused them of gang-raping her at a farmhouse in the Hasanpur area of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, police said.

The accused include a sub-inspector and a police personnel posted in Amroha, along with a CRPF inspector and a head constable. An FIR was registered at Hasanpur police station under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with gang rape. All four named accused were subsequently arrested.

Woman alleges assault at farmhouse

According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of Haryana, had travelled to the area on September 22. She was accompanied by two of the men and reached Hasanpur after travelling via Meerut, where the group came into contact with the police personnel.

They subsequently went to a farmhouse in the Jhulpuri area of Hasanpur, where rooms were taken for their stay. The woman alleged in her complaint that she was sexually assaulted there by the four men. Following the alleged incident, she approached the police and lodged a complaint, on the basis of which an FIR was registered. Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav confirmed the arrests and said action had been initiated against the personnel involved.

UP cops suspended

The two personnel belonging to the Uttar Pradesh Police were suspended following the registration of the case. Police said the CRPF authorities were being informed separately so that departmental action could be initiated against the two personnel serving with the central force. The sub-inspector was posted at Hasanpur police station, while the other Uttar Pradesh Police personnel was posted in Amroha district.

The two other accused are serving CRPF personnel, one holding the rank of inspector and the other head constable. Police have said the allegations are being investigated and further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the probe.

Farmhouse under scanner

The alleged assault took place at a farmhouse in the Hasanpur police station area. Reports said the property was associated with a political figure from neighbouring Uttarakhand, though police had not announced any allegation against the owner in connection with the alleged assault.

Investigators are expected to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the woman reaching the farmhouse and examine the circumstances under which the group stayed there. The woman’s statement will form a key part of the investigation, along with medical and forensic evidence and other material collected by police. With all four personnel accused by the complainant now under arrest, the case has also triggered departmental proceedings against those serving in the two forces.

The arrests are significant as the allegations involve personnel entrusted with law enforcement and security duties. The criminal investigation and departmental proceedings will run according to their respective procedures, with the allegations against the four accused yet to be adjudicated by a court.
