Army ambulance carrying soldier's body crashes into truck, four killed in Uttar Pradesh
Four people, including three members of a soldier's family and an ambulance driver, were killed when an Army ambulance carrying the body of a Subedar Major collided with a stationary truck on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred around 8 am near the 79.6 km-mark of the expressway in the Haliyapur area, close to the Ayodhya-Sultanpur border.
The ambulance was transporting the body of Subedar Major Satyawan from Chandigarh to his native village in Deoria district when it allegedly went out of control and rammed into a truck parked on the side of the road. The impact severely damaged the ambulance.
Soldier's son, brother and nephew among dead
The three family members who died were Satyawan's son Gaurav Singh, 28, his brother Rajan Chaudhary, 35, and his nephew Ram Samujh Singh, 40.
Ambulance driver Jaspal, 30, also died in the crash.
Gaurav Singh and Jaspal died at the spot, while Rajan Chaudhary and Ram Samujh Singh succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pithla-Kumarganj in Ayodhya district, police said.
The four were accompanying the body of Subedar Major Satyawan, a resident of Galiya Dudhailla village in the Rudrapur area of Deoria district.
Bodies sent for post-mortem
Police took the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem examinations. The families of the victims have been informed, officials said.
The body of Subedar Major Satyawan has been kept at the Haliyapur police station premises pending further arrangements.
Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said District Magistrate Indrajeet Singh and he visited the accident site after receiving information about the crash.
