Man allegedly kills wife and mother-in-law over social media post in West Tripura
A man who had been separated from his wife for over a year allegedly killed her and her mother in West Tripura district over a social media post, police reported on Sunday. The accused, a 51-year-old poultry farmer from Madhupur in Sepahijala district, has been arrested. He had been living with his two sons in Madhupur, while his wife, who had filed for divorce, had been staying with her mother in Netajinagar, West Tripura, for the past year and a half, according to police.
On Sunday, the man's estranged wife posted photographs on social media with two male friends, taken during Durga Puja festivities. The images reportedly enraged the husband, leading him to plot the murder of his wife. According to Kiran Kumar K, Superintendent of Police (SP) for West Tripura, the man attacked both his wife and her mother with a sharp object as they were returning home. The mother and daughter died at the scene.
Police arrived at the location and found the bodies lying in pools of blood. The accused was apprehended within an hour of the crime, the SP confirmed. Authorities have launched an investigation into the killings, and the suspect is expected to be presented in court soon.
