Temple priest booked for alleged sexual assault of minor

Police say incident took place inside temple in Rangareddy district; case registered under POCSO Act

A temple priest has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl inside a temple in Telangana's Rangareddy district, police said on Saturday.

The incident was reported under the jurisdiction of the Ramachandrapuram police station, which falls under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

According to police, the minor had gone to the temple when the priest allegedly sexually assaulted her on the premises. The matter came to light after the child informed her family about the incident.

Case registered

Following a complaint, police registered a case against the priest under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other applicable laws.

Police subsequently took the accused into custody, and further investigation into the allegations is underway.

Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the investigation. The identity of the minor has not been disclosed in accordance with legal protections for children who are victims of sexual offences.

The case has once again highlighted concerns over children's safety and the importance of promptly reporting allegations of sexual abuse to law enforcement agencies.
