CM Revanth Reddy orders probe into KCR farmhouse land, alleges Rs 1 lakh crore ‘loot’ under BRS

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday ordered a special enquiry team (SET) probe into alleged land irregularities during the previous BRS government, accusing its leadership, relatives and supporters of involvement in transactions concerning land worth around Rs 1 lakh crore. Speaking at length in the Assembly during a discussion on lands listed under Section 22-A of the Registration Act, Reddy also ordered an inquiry into land associated with BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse at Erravelli in Siddipet district. The allegations were rejected by the BRS.

KCR farmhouse under lens

Reddy alleged that 388 acres of government-assigned land formed part of the land under the control of KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli and asked the former chief minister to clarify the extent of the property. He claimed that around 700 acres were under KCR’s control and directed the Revenue Department and the district collector to issue notice to him to determine how much land had been purchased, the nature of the land records and who currently controlled the alleged 388 acres of government land. The Chief Minister said the inquiry should establish the facts rather than allow the matter to remain a political allegation, and directed ministers and officials concerned to complete the exercise within 30 days, warning that action would follow if the deadline was not met.

Rs 1 lakh crore allegation

Broadening his attack, Reddy alleged that land-related irregularities under the previous BRS administration involved properties valued at around Rs 1 lakh crore. He accused BRS leaders, their supporters and relatives of benefiting from land transactions and said the truth should be established through an investigation so that land belonging to poorer sections could be protected. The Chief Minister said matters involving suspected irregularities would be referred to the SET. His remarks came amid a continuing political confrontation between the Congress government and BRS over Section 22-A land records, which cover properties prohibited from registration because of legal or administrative restrictions. BRS leaders have separately demanded an impartial probe into alleged irregularities concerning such lands.

Land for Dalits

Referring to the recent controversy over a purported “purification” ceremony near KCR’s Erravelli farmhouse after Congress SC cell activists staged a protest there, Reddy said any government land found to be under Rao’s control would be distributed among Dalits, with half an acre proposed for each beneficiary. The episode has become another point of confrontation between the Congress and BRS, with police cases registered following the alleged ritual and competing political claims surrounding the incident. Reddy further claimed that KCR became the owner of certain land after purchasing it following its regularisation in 2017, an assertion that forms part of the allegations he wants examined.

BRS rejects charges

Reddy also accused the BRS of disrupting Assembly proceedings and alleged that its legislators had sought to avoid a substantive debate on land issues. BRS MLA T Harish Rao rejected the Chief Minister’s accusations, saying Reddy had spoken “lies” in the House and was attempting to divert attention from issues affecting the public. The fresh allegations add to an escalating political battle between the ruling Congress and the principal Opposition over land administration and the Erravelli controversy.
