Punjab: Illegal cattle transportation thwarted in Talwara
Hoshiarpur (Punjab): An attempt to illegally transport cattle was thwarted here on Monday, and one person was arrested in the case, police said. The incident took place when police were tipped off by Deepak Verma, Talwara block coordinator of Bajrang Dal, that a truck loaded with cows, bulls and calves, tied cruelly and inhumanely, was heading towards Talwara from the Mukerian side on Sunday. Meanwhile, Verma, accompanied by some 'Gau Rakshaks' of the area, tried to intercept the vehicle a market. After a chase, they intercepted the vehicle in Rakri village. They even caught hold of the driver who was trying to flee. He suffered some minor injuries, police said. The driver, identified as Atardeen, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, was later handed over to the police. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act. Further investigation is underway, police added.
