Process on to field young candidates for UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand Assembly polls: BSP

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday said that a process was underway to field young individuals from all sections of society as party candidates in the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.

In a post on X in Hindi, Mayawati said that though the process of ensuring about 50 per cent participation of Gen-Z in the party organisation has been underway for a long time, the process for implementing directives to prioritise dedicated and young talents from all sections of society as party candidates is also continuing for UP, Uttarakhand, and Punjab Assembly elections.

"...so that the constitutional values can rapidly flourish in the country through the new generation," she said. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab are due in 2027.

She said earlier work was done with strong will to fulfil basic needs of the people such as roads, electricity, water, education, health and jobs, among others, and many schools, colleges, universities, hostels, training centres and parks were established.

"However, due to the extreme casteist attitude of the opposition parties, the BSP government could not come to power for the fifth time in 2012, a fact that people from all walks of life still regret. Since the BSP government left the state, the rule of law has not only made people's lives miserable, but also quite distressed, and the government's propaganda about development is not even able to feed the people," she said.

She added that in such a situation, the party members have to be told again that while selecting BSP candidates, they should choose only good people from all sections of society and also give priority to the youth, which should include both men and women.
