Patiala horror: Pitbull attacks couple, woman suffers severe injuries requiring surgery

A couple suffered multiple injuries after being attacked by a pitbull in Patiala’s Ghuman Nagar, with purported CCTV footage of the incident circulating on social media.

Couple attacked while viewing house

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Patiala residents Ankit Sabharwal and his wife Shifali went to Ghuman Nagar with a property dealer to inspect a house they were considering for rent.

According to Ankit, the attack began as soon as the gate of the house was opened. A pitbull rushed out and attacked Shifali, severely injuring her arm and other parts of her body.

The injuries were serious enough to require surgery, and she is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Ankit was also bitten on his legs and back while attempting to protect his wife from the dog.

CCTV footage shows frantic rescue attempt

The purported CCTV footage shows the dog repeatedly attacking the couple as nearby residents try to intervene. The victims can be seen struggling to get away from the animal.

A woman is seen coming out of the house with a stick in an attempt to stop the dog, but is unable to restrain it. Two or three other people then approach with sticks and eventually manage to pull the injured couple away from the animal.

Ankit said police have been informed about the incident. He has sought action against those responsible for allegedly allowing the dog to roam freely.

Patiala mayor proposes ban on aggressive breeds

Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia said the incident has prompted the civic body to consider action against aggressive dog breeds.

Speaking to PTI, Gogia said keeping such breeds as pets would be banned in the city. He said the issue would be discussed at a House meeting of the municipal corporation, where a special resolution could be considered.

Fresh concerns over dog attacks

The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of residents amid reports of dog attacks in Patiala.

Earlier, on August 9, a girl was allegedly mauled by a stray dog while passing through the Guru Nanak Nagar area.
