Bhagwant Mann government pioneers initiative, sends 500+ teachers for global and national training

Aimed at improving the state's education system, the initiative provides cross-learning opportunities and high motivation for teachers with exposure to global best practices in teaching and leadership

In a significant move aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has sent more than 500 teachers to undergo advanced training programs abroad and within India. The initiative, part of a larger effort to enhance the skills of educators, includes training in countries such as Singapore and Finland, as well as at prestigious Indian institutions like IIM Ahmedabad.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the program’s objective to empower government school students to compete with their globally educated peers. "The competence and ability of teachers directly impact the learning outcomes of their students," Mann stated, highlighting the necessity of training programs for teachers and school heads.

To oversee this initiative, the Punjab government has established an International Education Affairs Cell (IEAC) within the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This cell facilitates global exposure for teachers, enabling them to learn best practices from top educational systems around the world. Trips have been organized to institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and destinations like Switzerland, Finland, and Singapore.

So far, six batches consisting of 202 principals and education officers have undergone a five-day Leadership Development Program in Singapore. Additionally, 72 primary teachers have embarked on training in Finland, and three batches of 152 headmasters and education officers received specialized training at IIM Ahmedabad.

Mann reiterated that the initiative aims to reverse the state's brain drain and help youth excel in all fields. "Punjab’s youth have immense potential, and with the right guidance and opportunities, they can achieve great heights," the Chief Minister remarked.

The Chief Minister also stressed that teachers are being trained in modern teaching techniques used abroad, which they will share with their colleagues and students upon return. This initiative is seen as a game-changer for the state’s education system, as it aims to bring qualitative changes and ensure students receive world-class education in Punjab.

Mann concluded by stating that these trained teachers are acting as agents of change in the state's education sector, ensuring that students benefit from innovative and effective teaching methods. The government will continue to pursue such efforts to boost education in the state for the betterment of students.
