AAP-linked former village head shot dead in Ludhiana, family alleges land dispute
A 60-year-old former village head was allegedly shot dead in Punjab's Ludhiana district on Saturday, with his family alleging that a land dispute was behind the killing and naming his brother and several others in the police complaint.
The victim, identified as Navtej Singh alias Neetu, was returning home when two men on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted his Toyota Innova in Ladhuwal and opened fire.
The attackers allegedly fired 13 rounds at Singh. The incident was also captured on the dashcam of his Innova.
Singh was taken to a hospital after the shooting, where doctors declared him dead.
Family alleges planned murder
Singh's son Alamjit Singh alleged that his father was "murdered" in a "planned manner". He named eight people, including his uncle Pal Singh, members of his family and the current village head, in the police complaint.
Alamjit, who is an advocate, said the family had a land dispute with the accused and that cases related to the dispute are currently pending in court.
"The motive behind this murder is that we have a land dispute with them, and cases are currently pending in the court," he said.
He also alleged that the accused had threatened him and his father "many times".
Police begin investigation
The police have registered a case in connection with the killing and initiated an investigation.
The allegations made by the victim's family, including the claimed motive and involvement of the people named in the complaint, are part of the ongoing police investigation.
