Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde confident of Mahayuti's victory in upcoming state elections

Eknath Shinde believes the BJP’s success in Haryana will be mirrored in Maharashtra, highlighting welfare schemes like the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ to secure voter support

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed confidence that the ruling Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (led by Shinde), and Ajit Pawar's NCP faction, will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming state assembly elections. He pointed to the recent electoral success of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana as a sign of the coalition's potential in Maharashtra.

Speaking to reporters at Pune airport after returning from Chandigarh, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Shinde discussed the BJP's strong performance. The event, which also featured the NDA Chief Ministers’ Council Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focused on development and welfare schemes in NDA-ruled states. According to Shinde, the consensus was that such meetings should be held twice a year to promote greater cooperation.

Shinde praised the BJP's victory in Haryana, where the party secured an unprecedented third term by winning 48 of the 90 assembly seats. Despite early polls and surveys predicting a more competitive race, voters favored the "double engine" government model, where the same party governs both at the state and central levels. Shinde described Haryana Chief Minister Saini as a down-to-earth leader, stating that the election results reflected public appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s policies.

With Maharashtra’s assembly elections scheduled for November 20, Shinde is optimistic about similar success in his state. The Mahayuti government, he noted, has implemented several welfare schemes that have resonated with the public. Among these is the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana,’ a flagship initiative that provides a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 to women from economically weaker sections. Shinde believes this and other development measures will help the coalition secure a majority.

The upcoming election is expected to be a face-off between the Mahayuti and the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's NCP faction (SP). After a poor showing in the Lok Sabha elections, the Mahayuti hopes to regain momentum by focusing on welfare schemes and development efforts. Shinde concluded by expressing confidence that the Mahayuti will retain power in Maharashtra with a "thumping" majority, thanks to its comprehensive development agenda and successful welfare initiatives. Maharashtra, which has 288 assembly seats, will see its election results announced on November 23, just days after the polls are conducted.
