Dipke asks 'Delhi Metro band karna kya hai?' as CJP protests at Shivaji Park in Mumbai

Abhijeet Dipke draws a comparison between restrictions at Mumbai's Shivaji Park and Delhi Metro closures during the Jantar Mantar protest

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday questioned the restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of a protest at Jantar Mantar, drawing a comparison with the denial of permission for his party's demonstration at Mumbai's Shivaji Park.

Dipke, who is in Mumbai for the CJP's protest demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, raised the issue of public inconvenience caused by the closure of metro stations in Delhi.

“Shivaji Park par protest karna public ke liye inconvenience hai toh Delhi me metro band karna kya hai,” Dipke wrote on X.

The CJP has been seeking Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party had been denied permission to hold its October 2 demonstration at Shivaji Park and subsequently announced a 'Jail Bharo Andolan' at the venue.

Delhi tightens security around Jantar Mantar

In Delhi, authorities imposed restrictions around central Delhi as AISA, AAP and other groups planned a demonstration demanding Kumar's resignation. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation shut entry and exit at several stations in the area following security directions, while interchange facilities remained available at some stations.

The protest was held despite the denial of permission, with police detaining protesters and security being stepped up around Jantar Mantar.

CJP protest in Mumbai

In Mumbai, CJP activists and other supporters gathered in connection with the party's protest against the Election Commission and the SIR exercise. Mumbai Police had earlier denied permission for the demonstration at Shivaji Park, citing existing restrictions governing gatherings at the venue.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das criticised Kumar during the mobilisation and appealed to people in Mumbai to join the protest.

“The youth of the whole country, the young generation, everyone came out last time for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. And this time too, it is going to be the same with Gyanesh Kumar, who is a traitor to the country. The youth of Mumbai are hitting the streets again. Today, a massive protest is going to happen at Shivaji Park. And I want, I appeal to all the Mumbaikars and our friends. Everyone come,” Das said.

The CJP has said its campaign will extend beyond Mumbai, with protests planned in other cities as it continues its demand for action against Kumar.
