Bollywood actor Govinda recovers after accidental gunshot injury at his Mumbai residence
Bollywood actor Govinda is recovering at a private hospital after sustaining leg injuries when his licensed revolver accidentally discharged at his Mumbai residence. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning while the 60-year-old actor was alone. According to officials, Govinda's Webley revolver, an older model, misfired and struck him near his left knee. The actor is reportedly in stable condition and recovering well.
Although no official complaint has been lodged, both local police and the Mumbai crime branch have launched parallel investigations into the accident. A team led by senior inspector Daya Nayak visited Govinda in the hospital on Tuesday to inquire about the details of the incident. The actor's revolver has since been seized for further examination.
Govinda, beloved for his exceptional comic timing and dancing skills, reassured his fans through a statement that he is doing better. A staple of Hindi cinema from the late 1980s through the 1990s, Govinda has appeared in more than 165 films over a career spanning four decades.
In a political turn earlier this year, the actor re-entered the political arena by joining the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. This move followed his earlier political stint, during which he won the 2004 Lok Sabha election representing Mumbai North as a Congress candidate, though he stepped away from politics in 2008.
