‘I clearly failed’: Abhijeet Dipke shares satirical resignation letter after Balaghat heckling

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday shared a satirical resignation letter announcing his “resignation” as Madhya Pradesh chief minister, taking a swipe at the Mohan Yadav-led government over a series of issues, including the deaths of tribal children in Balaghat and the Sagar hooch tragedy.

Dipke posted the purported resignation letter on X, saying: “I hereby resign as the Chief Minister of MP with immediate effect. I thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of MP, an opportunity in which I have clearly failed.”

The letter was designed to resemble an authentic official document and was used by Dipke to mock the state government and its handling of the two crises.

The post came a day after Dipke was heckled by a group of social media influencers during his visit to Balaghat, where he had gone to meet families of tribal children who had allegedly died from infectious diseases.

Dipke's resignation letter takes aim at MP government

In his satirical letter, Dipke listed what he described as the “failures” of the state government and took aim at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and members of his administration.

The Sagar spurious liquor tragedy and the deaths of children in Balaghat were among the issues referenced in his criticism.

CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka responded to the post in a similarly sarcastic tone, joking that Dipke was “running away” from responsibility.

The resignation was, however, clearly presented as satire rather than an actual change in the state government.

What happened during Dipke's Balaghat visit

Dipke had travelled to the Balaghat villages of Adori, Korka and Bondari on Saturday to meet families who had lost children and gather information about healthcare facilities in the affected areas.

The visit took place amid growing scrutiny of the health crisis in the tribal belt. More than 30 children have reportedly died from infectious diseases, while allegations have been raised over inadequate medical care, poor sanitation, unsafe drinking water and a lack of nutrition.

A video that went viral showed a woman identified as an influencer approaching Dipke's car with a microphone as he was leaving the area.

She questioned whether he had come to “do politics on corpses” and asked why he had visited the area so late. Dipke was heard apologising for the delayed visit.

The woman also pointed towards the road and said: “A good road has been constructed here. Can't you see it?”

The confrontation escalated before CJP workers accompanying Dipke moved him into another vehicle and drove him away. As he left, the woman was heard saying, “he ran away, he ran away.”

Local journalists expressed surprise at the presence of a group of social media influencers from outside the remote village and questioned whether they had been sent to disrupt Dipke's visit.

High Court seeks response over child deaths

The controversy comes as the Madhya Pradesh High Court examines allegations surrounding the deaths of more than 30 children in Balaghat.

The court has issued notices to the state government, the Health Department, the Women and Child Development Department, the Balaghat collector and other authorities.

The PIL alleged that children were not receiving adequate medical treatment and that about 400 children were being treated at a hospital with a capacity of only 50 beds.

A ground report submitted by the petitioner alleged widespread filth in the affected areas and claimed that these conditions were contributing to the spread of infections.

The report also highlighted concerns over drinking water and nutrition. It said handpumps in affected areas were producing yellowish water and alleged that women and children had not been receiving adequate nutritional food.

Following the deaths, authorities increased hospital bed capacity, stepped up sanitation measures and deployed health teams in the affected areas. The High Court has sought a response from the state authorities, with the next hearing scheduled for September 18.

Sagar hooch tragedy adds to government scrutiny

Dipke's criticism also referred to the spurious liquor tragedy in Sagar's Banda area, where people fell ill after allegedly consuming illicit liquor.

The death toll rose to 16, while dozens of others were undergoing treatment. Police said 30 people had been named as accused, with 16 arrested and one detained. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The investigation has since led police to alleged members of a wider spurious liquor network. One of the alleged key accused, Ravi Lakhera, was arrested after an encounter with police on September 11. Police said Lakhera sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire and was taken to hospital.

The case has also raised questions about the alleged supply chain and the role of people involved in the manufacture and distribution of the spurious liquor.

Fomepizole helped save more than 30 patients

While the tragedy claimed lives, the rapid availability of fomepizole emerged as a significant factor in treating severely affected patients.

Fomepizole is an antidote used in suspected methanol poisoning. It works by preventing the body from converting methanol into highly toxic metabolites and is a key part of treatment when toxic alcohol poisoning is suspected.

At Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar, doctors identified the need for the drug as patients developed symptoms associated with severe methanol poisoning. The antidote was brought from Bhopal within about three hours, with officials saying it helped save more than 30 seriously ill patients.

Because supplies were limited, doctors used the available doses carefully, alongside ethanol therapy and dialysis. Several critically ill patients who had required ventilator support subsequently improved.

The combination of the Sagar tragedy and the continuing health crisis in Balaghat has intensified scrutiny of the Madhya Pradesh government's handling of public health and administrative failures, providing the backdrop for Dipke's latest satirical attack on the state government.
