Jharkhand SIR: No further extension for claims, objections, says CEO

Jharkhand CEO K Ravi Kumar on Tuesday said the deadline for filing claims and objections against deletion of names from the electoral rolls under the SIR will end on September 30.

The Chief Electoral Officer's office, however, has sought an extension of the period for issuing notices and conducting verification, Kumar said.

"Considering voters’ convenience, the Election Commission already extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the SIR twice. Now, there is no consideration to extend the deadline further. The focus will now be on the physical forms received and their digitisation," Kumar said.

The deadline for receiving Form-6, Form-7 and Form-8 applications will end on September 30.

"We have sent a proposal to the commission for an extension in the period of notices and verifications," he said.

Initially, claims and objections against deletion of names could be filed from August 5 to September 4, while the final electoral roll was scheduled to be published on October 7.

The poll panel later extended the deadline for filing claims and objections to September 15 and deferred publication of the revised electoral roll to October 19.

The deadline was subsequently extended to September 30, while October 19 remained the date for publication of the revised electoral roll.

Political parties discuss SIR exercise and voter verification

The CEO also held a meeting with representatives of all recognised political parties on Thursday to discuss the SIR exercise.

During the meeting, booth-wise data concerning 'no-mapping' and discrepancies across all polling stations in the state was provided to the representatives.

He appealed to all recognised political parties to cooperate in identifying eligible voters and providing them with information regarding necessary procedures so that the electoral rolls could be made error-free and up to date through the SIR-2026 process.

Over 43 lakh names deleted from draft electoral rolls

Around 6.32 lakh applications have been received under Form-6 till Monday, 11,732 objections under Form-7 and 4.27 lakh applications under Form-8.

The Election Commission published the draft electoral rolls in Jharkhand on August 5 after deleting 43.61 lakh names.

The state had 2.64 crore electors before the SIR exercise began. Following the exercise, the draft electoral roll contains 2.21 crore voters, including 1.12 crore men, 1.08 crore women and 260 third-gender voters.
