Devendra Nath Mahto joins Vidhan Sabha gherao march on stretcher

Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto joined the protesting students’ ‘Vidhan Sabha gherao’ march despite being on a hunger strike for the past nine days.

Mahto, who has been fasting at the main protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, said he reached the march in an ambulance and was proceeding on a stretcher.

“Despite being on a hunger strike, I have come here. They won’t be able to stop us. I reached here in an ambulance and I am going ahead on a stretcher. I have been on a hunger strike for the past nine days and the government will have to accept our demands,” he said.

Water canons launched on students

As the state launched water canons on students, the GenZ, they seemed to enjoy it with some dancing and others bringing umbrellas to continue their stir. Some laughed and said that by spraying water, the government is helping students carry on with the protest amid the scorching heat.

On Hemant Soren’s birthday, Mahato appeals to students ‘no blood should spill here’

During the ‘Vidhan Sabha gherao’ march, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato appealed to protesters to remain disciplined and ensure that the demonstration stays peaceful.

“I urge all students to stay disciplined. It is Hemant Soren’s birthday today. I don’t want students to do anything that could lead to a mishap here, like what happened during the Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi. No blood should spill here; the protest should remain peaceful,” Mahato said.

He urged the government to take a decision on the students’ demands, warning that the protests would continue otherwise.
