ED conducts raids in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in Jal Jeevan Mission scheme

ED Raids Over 20 Locations in Jharkhand as Part of Money Laundering Probe Into Alleged Irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission, Targeting IAS Officer, Minister’s Staff, Contractors, and Businessmen

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday carried out searches in connection with a money laundering investigation related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in poll-bound Jharkhand, according to official sources. Over 20 locations in Ranchi are being searched as part of the probe.

Premises linked to IAS officer Manish Ranjan, a personal staffer of drinking water and sanitation minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, his brother, some government officials, contractors and businessmen are being searched by the federal probe agency, they said. Ranjan is the secretary of the Land, Road and Building department and has been questioned by the ED earlier in a separate money laundering case in which it arrested former minister Alamgir Alam.

The ED’s money laundering investigation is tied to allegations of irregularities in the execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government scheme that aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections across the country. With assembly elections expected to be declared soon in Jharkhand, the ED’s actions have sparked considerable attention as the probe into the scheme intensifies.
