Goods worth lakhs destroyed after overnight blaze engulfs godown-cum-sales outlet in Karan Nagar, damaging the structure before firefighters contain flames

Property and goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed after a fire broke out at a furnishings firm's godown-cum-sales outlet in Srinagar's Karan Nagar area during the night, officials said on Sunday.

According to officials, the blaze erupted at the premises and rapidly engulfed the goods stored inside, causing extensive damage within minutes. The structure housing the establishment was also damaged in the incident.

Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to bring the flames under control.

The timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to an adjoining private hospital, averting a potentially more serious incident.

Officials said patients at the hospital were evacuated as a precautionary measure with assistance from police personnel, local residents and other authorities.

"Timely action by the authorities, including police and locals, helped in evacuating the patients to safety," the officials said.

Firefighters subsequently contained the blaze, preventing further damage to neighbouring establishments.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, while officials are assessing the extent of property damage and financial losses.

In a separate incident during the night, two trucks parked at the Police Control Room in Srinagar were damaged after a fire broke out, officials said.

Fire and emergency services personnel responded to the incident and extinguished the flames.

The authorities have not disclosed the cause of the second fire or the extent of damage to the vehicles.

Officials said the circumstances surrounding both incidents were being ascertained.
