CISF head constable opens fire at Kathua camp with Ak-47, kills four colleagues including officer

Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were killed after a head constable allegedly opened fire on his colleagues at a CISF camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday, officials said. The incident took place at the CISF camp near the Sewa Power Project in the hills of Basohli. Preliminary information indicated that the firing followed an argument, although officials were yet to disclose what led to the altercation.

Four personnel killed

The CISF personnel who allegedly opened fire has been identified by his rank as a Head Constable. Four of his colleagues suffered fatal injuries in the firing, with an Assistant Commandant among those killed. Further details regarding the identities of the deceased personnel were not immediately available. Authorities were also yet to disclose whether any other personnel were injured in the incident.

Accused handed to police

The Head Constable was taken into custody following the shooting and handed over to the local police for further investigation. Police are expected to examine the circumstances preceding the firing and determine what triggered the incident. Officials had not announced a motive at the time of the initial reports.

Incident at power project

The shooting occurred at a CISF camp deployed near the Sewa Power Project in the Basohli area of Kathua district. The CISF is responsible for providing security to critical infrastructure and industrial establishments across the country, including power projects, airports, ports and other strategically important facilities.
