Five students arrested after SFI-ABVP clash at Himachal Pradesh University

Five students have been arrested following a clash between activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Himachal Pradesh University here on Saturday, police said.

Clash breaks out near university gate

The clash took place near the university gate when members of the two student organisations allegedly engaged in a physical confrontation, triggering panic on the campus, they said.

ABVP campus president Akshay Thakur alleged that SFI activists attacked ABVP members present near the gate to welcome new students.

He claimed that several SFI workers arrived at the spot and assaulted ABVP activists with weapons, leaving around five of them injured.

Thakur demanded strict action by the university authorities against those allegedly involved in the incident.

SFI rejects allegations, accuses ABVP

SFI rejected the allegations and accused ABVP activists of attacking its members.

The organisation alleged that ABVP activists had stopped and harassed an SFI student on Friday evening before attacking SFI activists with weapons on Saturday.

SFI demanded an impartial inquiry by the university administration, strict legal action against those responsible and adequate security for students on the campus.

Police register case, investigation underway

Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
