Teen dies after fall from terrace in Haryana's Kurukshetra; family accuses cops of pushing him

The teenager died after nearly 11 days in hospital, while police said he jumped while allegedly trying to escape apprehension

A 16-year-old boy died during treatment at a hospital here after sustaining serious injuries in a fall from the terrace of a three-storey building, police said on Wednesday.

The family of Raman, a resident of Deha Colony here, however, alleged that two policemen pushed him from the terrace. Police denied the charge.

Shahabad Station House Officer (SHO) Jagdish Tamak said the incident followed the alleged waylaying and snatching of Rs 14,500 from a youth, Aman, of Roti village, by two youths.

During the investigation, police detained Sahil of Deha Colony, who identified Raman as his accomplice, the SHO.

When police went to apprehend Raman, he allegedly tried to escape and jumped from the third-floor terrace onto an adjoining house after seeing the policemen approaching, suffering serious injuries, Tamak said.

Raman remained under treatment for nearly 11 days. He died on the intervening night of August 25-26.

His family staged protests, alleging that the policemen had pushed him from the terrace and demanded action against them.

Tamak said Raman's post-mortem has been conducted and his mortal remains were cremated on Wednesday.
