Priyanka Gandhi urges Haryana to reject BJP, calls it a battle against injustice
In a fiery address to a public meeting in Haryana's Julana, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged the people of Haryana to vote out the BJP in the upcoming October 5 assembly elections, likening the struggle to historic battles like Kurukshetra and the fight against British rule.
Campaigning for her party’s candidate, Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing them of betraying the people on key issues like employment, the Agniveer military recruitment scheme, and farmers' welfare. She denounced the Modi government for prioritizing the interests of a few industrialists over the common people, claiming that employment opportunities have been limited as the government has handed over ports, land, industries, and airports to big corporations like Ambani and Adani. According to Gandhi, this policy has left small businesses and the farming sector unable to generate jobs.
Gandhi also criticized the Agnipath scheme, under which Agniveers, after four years of service, would receive no pension and be forced to seek employment again. She described this as a direct result of Modi’s policies, adding that the BJP government is incapable of creating employment due to its wrong policies.
She further attacked the BJP government for its Parivar Pehchan Patra scheme, claiming it had caused many hardships for citizens. Referring to the now-repealed farm laws, she accused the Modi government of unfairly targeting the farming community, emphasizing that the government only began to relent when faced with electoral pressures in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi also took a dig at the BJP’s claim of providing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 24 crops, pointing out that 10 of those crops were not even grown in Haryana. "Whom are they fooling? The entire country is watching," she remarked.
Concluding her speech, she appealed to the gathering to bring about change and reject the BJP government, stating, “Change this government. Oust the BJP.”
