Pay cuts, transfers: Haryana CM cracks down on officials over public grievances in Gurugram

Gurugram officials face action as Saini orders suspensions and salary deductions over lapses

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday ordered action against several officials in Gurugram over negligence, procedural violations and misconduct, including suspension of a municipal Patwari and salary cuts for other officials, while reviewing public grievances.

Additionally, the chief minister ordered the suspension of a municipal corporation Patwari for misbehaving with citizens. He also approved a one-month salary deduction for the Public Works Department (PWD) executive engineer due to negligence in road restoration work, an official said.

Saini issued these orders during a meeting of the district public relations and grievance redressal committee in Gurugram on Wednesday, the official added.

Action against officials over procedural violations

According to an official statement, while addressing a complaint regarding the renovation of a school building, Saini revealed that a plan worth over Rs 2,000 crore has been approved to strengthen infrastructure in government schools across the state.

Under this plan, over 400 government schools will receive new buildings by the end of December 2027.

During the meeting,15 complaints were discussed, with the chief minister resolving 11 on the spot. He directed that the remaining four cases be held pending until the next meeting, instructing the concerned officials to submit status reports on those cases at that time.

While hearing a complaint related to the Municipal Council Pataudi-Jatauli Mandi area, Saini took serious note of the wrongful creation of property IDs in violation of prescribed rules and procedures.

The inquiry revealed that the then building inspector and municipal engineer had created property IDs without obtaining prior approval from the competent authority and without following the prescribed procedure.

In response to this negligence, the chief minister ordered a 50 per cent salary deduction for three months, the issuance of chargesheets against the officials, and their transfer outside Haryana's NCR districts.

Committees to inspect public toilets

Saini also took note of complaints regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of public toilets in the Municipal Corporation areas of Gurugram and Manesar. He ordered inspections and directed that three-member committees be formed in each zone through the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee.

Each committee will include one government official and will be responsible for inspecting the condition and cleanliness of public toilets across six zones in the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and two zones in the Municipal Corporation of Manesar. They are required to submit their reports within one month.

Patwari suspended, PWD engineer faces salary cut

Saini also took serious note of a complaint regarding misbehaviour by a Patwari of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram while hearing a citizen's grievance during the meeting. After the matter came to light, the chief minister directed the immediate suspension of the Patwari concerned.

The chief minister also addressed a complaint concerning negligence in road restoration work and failure to execute the work in accordance with prescribed standards. He directed that one month's salary of the executive engineer concerned of the Public Works Department be deducted.
