Ambala's 1857 Martyrs' Memorial will open to the public on November 15, with free entry for a month and a daily limit of 500 visitors

Haryana Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that the Martyr's Memorial of the first war of independence of 1857, inaugurated in Ambala Cantt on Thursday, will be opened to the public from November 15.

Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Anil Vij, said that the "Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Samrak", which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will be opened to the public from November 15, and visitors will be allowed free entry for one month, with a limit of 500 visitors per day.

Vij said that members of the public will be able to book tickets for visiting the memorial between 9 am and 3 pm.

According to an official statement, Vij said that on the directions of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, entry to the memorial will remain free for one month, during which only 500 visitors will be allowed per day.

He clarified that even visitors availing free entry will have to book their tickets. Tickets can be booked online by visiting ambalawarmemorial.com. In addition, arrangements have also been made for ticket booking at the memorial premises, he said.

He said that the first war of Independence began in Ambala Cantonment on May 10, 1857.

Vij said that a number of martyrs, who made sacrifices for the sake of the motherland during the freedom struggle, never received the place and recognition they deserved in history.

To honour these unsung heroes and give them their rightful place in history, the Martyrs' Memorial has been constructed in Ambala Cantonment, he said.
