Haryana to put all government healthcare facilities on a single digital map

The GIS-based platform is designed to provide citizens with information on hospitals, health centres and AYUSH facilities across the state

The Haryana government is preparing to bring its entire network of public healthcare institutions onto a single digital map, enabling citizens to access information about hospitals, primary health centres, sub-health centres and AYUSH facilities through one platform.

The initiative, being developed using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, will integrate information from the Health, AYUSH and Medical Education and Research (MER) departments, replacing fragmented departmental records with a unified database.

According to an official statement issued on Sunday, the system will also help policymakers assess healthcare infrastructure, identify gaps in services and make informed decisions about future investments.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Sumita Misra reviewed the progress of the mapping exercise during a meeting on Sunday, where officials presented GIS data covering healthcare institutions across Haryana.

The proposed digital interface will allow users to retrieve the geographical location, basic institutional details and photographs of individual healthcare facilities.

By consolidating this information, the platform is expected to make it easier for citizens to locate government health institutions and understand the distribution of available facilities.

The government said the exercise was particularly important because healthcare institutions were spread across urban centres, smaller towns and rural areas, making coordinated infrastructure planning dependent on reliable location-specific information.

A major focus of the review meeting was the involvement of the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), the state's nodal agency for remote sensing and geospatial applications.

HARSAC representatives assured the Health Department that the agency would provide technical assistance for managing the GIS database and facilitate information-sharing with other departments of the Haryana government.

The integrated platform is expected to support better coordination among departments and help authorities identify areas where healthcare infrastructure may need strengthening.

Officials said the mapping exercise would provide a clearer picture of the state's healthcare network, supporting more effective planning and resource allocation while improving public access to information about government medical facilities.
