Haryana to hold special Assembly session on November 26 to mark Constitution Day
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced that the state Assembly will convene a special session on November 26 to mark Constitution Day, with discussions on various aspects of the Constitution. The decision follows the state government's Constitution Fortnight celebrations, which included a gathering of elected representatives attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Announcing the decision at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Saini said the special sitting would provide an opportunity to discuss the Constitution and its significance.
The announcement came a day after the Haryana Assembly hosted a ‘Janpratinidhi Sammelan’ as part of the ‘Samvidhan Pakhwada’. Several state leaders attended the event, along with Birla.
Saini targets Congress and AAP over Punjab promises
Turning to Punjab politics, the Haryana chief minister launched an attack on the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming that both parties had made extensive promises to voters but failed to deliver on them.
Saini asserted that the time had come for a BJP-led government in Punjab. He questioned the AAP government over its employment commitments, pointing out that the party had promised jobs to 25 lakh people.
He also recalled the Congress's promise of providing employment to at least one member of every household. With five years having passed, Saini asked AAP to explain how many young people in Punjab had actually secured jobs under its government.
The chief minister further accused the Bhagwant Mann-led government of exploiting farmers and disappointing women by failing to fulfil its promises to them.
Haryana Roadways to get 500 new buses
Separately, the state's High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) and High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) approved several transport and infrastructure proposals.
Among the major decisions was the purchase of 500 fully built, non-air-conditioned diesel buses for Haryana Roadways. The buses will comply with the latest BS-VI emission standards.
The committees also cleared the procurement of 24 fully built diesel-engine trucks and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) for Haryana Roadways depots and sub-depots, based on their requirements for the coming year.
The approvals form part of a wider set of transport and infrastructure projects cleared by the committees. According to reports, nine proposals worth around ₹424.69 crore were approved, with negotiations with bidders bringing down the overall cost by approximately ₹11.96 crore.
Two flyovers and an underpass approved for Gurugram
To address rising traffic congestion and improve connectivity in Gurugram, the government approved three projects proposed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
These include a flyover at the intersection of Sectors 45-46 and 51-52, and another at the junction of Sectors 85-86 and 89-90.
An underpass has also been approved at the intersection of Sectors 27-29 and 43-44. The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion around the Millennium City Centre Metro Station.
Other infrastructure approvals reported from the committee meetings include a railway overbridge parallel to the existing structure on the Dahar-GT Road-NH-709 route in Panipat district. The committees also cleared furniture procurement for the under-construction Sant Shiromani Sri Dhanna Bhagat Ji Government Medical College in Haibatpur village, Jind, and the completion of residential quarters for teachers at the University of Health Sciences in Rohtak.
The decisions cover public transport, road connectivity, healthcare and education infrastructure across Haryana.
