Haryana school assault: Uncle alleges 8-year-old played violent games, including PUBG

PUBG habit alleged as 8-year-old boy brutally assaults girl in Haryana school

The uncle of the six-year-old girl who was brutally assaulted by an eight-year-old boy inside a government school classroom in Haryana's Panchkula has alleged that the accused child had a habit of playing violent video games, including PUBG.

Fazil said the boy's father had also confirmed that his son played PUBG and other games. โ€œThe child (who committed the attack)...it turned out he played certain types of games...aggressive games...he played PUBG, and now his father has also confirmed that he used to play PUBG and other such games, which led to these actions,โ€ he said on Tuesday.

The allegation comes after CCTV footage of the incident showed the Class 3 student repeatedly punching and kicking the younger girl inside an empty classroom. He also hurled blunt objects at her, apparently attempting to crush her head, in what appeared to be a murderous assault.

Victim recovering after serious injuries

The girl was admitted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh after the attack, where she received treatment for grievous injuries. She regained consciousness after nearly 40 hours and was subsequently reported to be out of danger.

Her uncle said she was now recovering well and receiving close medical attention.

โ€œShe is doing better than before... For the past two or three days, she has been receiving excellent care. The doctors are monitoring her very closely; everything is being handled well,โ€ Fazil said.

He also alleged that the boy had been teasing the girl and calling her crazy. After she objected, he tricked her into entering the empty classroom, where he assaulted her.

Teachers suspended, five-member panel formed

The Haryana education department has suspended two Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers over alleged negligence in connection with the incident.

The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) has also taken cognisance of the assault and asked the district education officer to submit a factual report.

The state government has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the incident and announced a comprehensive safety audit of schools across Haryana.

Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence. The probe is expected to examine the circumstances that allowed the assault to take place inside the school classroom.
