Haryana cuts infra project site assessment time from 45 days to 1-2 days using GIS tools
Haryana is using GIS-based technology to reduce infrastructure site-feasibility assessments from 40-45 days to just one or two days, marking a shift towards technology-driven planning under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
The state government said the number of infrastructure projects identified, planned or completed through PM GatiShakti has also risen from nine in April to 34 in August.
More projects mapped on GatiShakti platform
A review chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Wednesday found that the projects cover industrial infrastructure, irrigation, health, transport, power and town planning.
Of the 82 identified infrastructure projects, 61 have now been mapped on the PM GatiShakti platform, compared with 40 during the April review. Departments have been asked to complete the remaining mapping.
The digital planning push has also expanded across the administration. Haryana has secured Rank 1 among states for providing officials access to the PM GatiShakti State Master Plan portal, with more than 720 officials onboarded.
A further 944 officials have undergone training through 244 capacity-building sessions.
Hisar, Panipat projects see faster assessments
Commissioner and Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Amit Kumar Agrawal said GIS-based tools had significantly reduced the time needed to assess sites for major projects.
For the proposed District Civil Hospital in Hisar and bus terminal at Matlauda in Panipat, feasibility assessments that earlier took around 40-45 days can now be completed in one to two days.
The Architecture department has reported a similar reduction, with site assessments falling from 33-39 days to one-two days.
The Irrigation department used the platform to identify inter-departmental asset infringements along the Hisar-Ghaggar drain. Processing time fell from about 45 days to one-two days, with ground verification showing around 95% data accuracy.
GIS tools support industrial planning
The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation has developed a GIS-based system combining information on revenue, roads, railways, forests, irrigation, power and connectivity.
The tool is being used for planning industrial model townships in Rewari, Jind, Faridabad, Ambala, Rai in Sonipat and Saral, Naraingarh.
The aim is to identify constraints early, improve site selection and optimise land use while reducing delays during project execution.
Healthcare planning gets data-driven push
In Nuh, GIS-based analysis of primary health centres has been used to identify gaps in healthcare accessibility.
The state is also integrating departmental data. Of 23 departments asked to connect their data layers through APIs, 22 have completed or started the process.
The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan was launched in October 2021 to support integrated infrastructure planning and development.
