Gurugram issues work-from-home advisory as heavy rain triggers waterlogging, traffic snarls

Corporate offices, government and private schools and other institutions in Gurugram have been advised to allow employees and staff to work from home on Tuesday, August 25, following heavy rainfall that caused widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city.

The advisory was issued by the District Disaster Management Authority after intense rain lashed Gurugram and other parts of the Delhi-NCR region on Monday.

The district administration said the decision was taken in view of the possibility of further waterlogging and traffic congestion.

"In view of the heavy rainfall in Gurugram on 24 August 2026, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion at various locations across the district," said the notice issued by the deputy commissioner.

The order called on corporate offices, government and private schools and institutions to guide their employees and staff to work from home on August 25.

"The advisory will help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smooth repair and maintenance works on roads and drains by civic agencies," the notice added further.

Heavy rain leaves roads waterlogged

Gurugram witnessed intense spells of rain on Monday, leaving several arterial roads, residential areas and highways inundated. Water levels on some roads reached ankle-to-knee depth.

Waterlogging was reported in several parts of the city, including Sector 10 near Euro International School, South City-1, Tulip Chowk and the 60-metre road in Sector 69, Narsinghpur, sectors 9, 14 and 45, DLF Phase 3's V Block, Ardee City towards Sector 52, Sector 52A, Sector 5 and the Airia Mall stretch on Sohna Road.

The rain also affected traffic movement, with several stretches witnessing long queues and jams extending up to four kilometre.

Traffic teams deployed across city

The India Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad on Monday over the possibility of heavy rainfall. The alert was later downgraded to yellow for the Delhi-NCR region after the weather conditions improved.

“Traffic teams have been deployed on site for managing vehicle movement, and assistance from local police stations has also been taken. We will take up route diversions wherever necessary,” ACP traffic (headquarters and highways) Satyapal Yadav told Hindustan Times.
