Gurugram allows green cracker sales till November 6, bursting restricted to 4 hours

The district administration had temporarily restored traders' licences following the Supreme Court's relaxation of the firecracker ban across Delhi-NCR ahead of Diwali

The Gurugram administration temporarily restored the licences of firecracker traders to permit the sale of CSIR-NEERI-approved green crackers until November 6, following the Supreme Court's relaxation of the blanket ban on firecrackers across Delhi-NCR, an official said on Thursday.

Under the revised guidelines, the bursting of green crackers would be permitted only during specified hours on November 7 and 8, from 6 am to 7 am and from 8 pm to 10 pm.

The licences of traders, which had earlier been cancelled, were restored for the limited period from November 4 to November 6. A complete ban on the sale and bursting of firecrackers would be reinstated from November 9, 2026.

Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said the administration had identified 23 designated locations across Gurugram for the sale of approved green crackers and established monitoring teams at the district and block levels to ensure compliance with the restrictions.

"There are 23 designated locations for the sale of green firecrackers in Gurugram. Licensed shopkeepers are allowed to sell firecrackers until November 6, and the firecrackers may only be burst during the specified hours on November 7 and 8," Singh said.

He added that the temporary relaxation would end after the festive period, with the complete prohibition returning on November 9.

The administration clarified that only green crackers approved by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) could be sold during the permitted period.

Traders were required to operate only from the designated locations and comply with the conditions imposed by the authorities.

The Deputy Commissioner said a complete prohibition on bursting firecrackers would remain in force within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centres, old-age homes and designated silence zones.

The restrictions would also apply to educational institutions, irrespective of the temporary relaxation granted for Diwali.

The administration said monitoring teams had been constituted at district and block levels to oversee the implementation of the guidelines and prevent violations.

Officials would monitor the sale of firecrackers, verify compliance with the approved locations and ensure that crackers were burst only during the designated hours.

According to an official statement, six locations were designated within the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram limits.

These included the ground near Vatika Chowk in Badshahpur, an open ground in Sector 9, the stadium in Babupur village, the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) ground in Sector 5, the Gaushala ground near Mahavir Chowk and the Leisure Valley ground in Sector 29.

Two designated locations were identified in the Manesar Municipal Corporation area, while three each were allotted in the Gurugram Rural and Sohna Rural blocks.

One location each was designated in the Pataudi Rural block and the Sohna Municipal Council area.

Three locations were identified across the Farrukhnagar Rural block and Pataudi-Mandi Municipal Council area, while two locations were designated in the Farrukhnagar Municipal Committee area.

The administration said traders would be permitted to sell approved green crackers only at the notified locations during the authorised period.

The temporary relaxation followed the Supreme Court's decision to permit the limited sale and use of certified green crackers during the festive season, subject to strict conditions aimed at controlling air pollution.

The order allowed authorities to regulate sales and restrict bursting to specified time slots rather than permitting unrestricted use.

Gurugram officials said the district administration would enforce the complete ban again from November 9, after the permitted festive period ended.

Residents and traders were urged to follow the prescribed guidelines, particularly the restrictions around healthcare facilities, educational institutions and silence zones, to minimise pollution and public inconvenience.
