Four arrested in armed robbery at Kurukshetra advocate's house

Four people have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at an advocate’s residence in Haryana’s Kurukshetra, with police recovering Rs 5.50 lakh from their possession.

The arrests were made on Monday by teams of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Unit-1 and Unit-2. The accused have been identified as Kamal from Panipat, Sahil from Sonipat, Prince from Panipat and Ansh Jain alias Lala from Sonipat.

Robbers held couple at gunpoint

According to police, the robbery took place on the night of August 6 at the Sector 7 residence of advocate Balwant Singh Walia. Walia told police that he was practising law for around 30 years and lived at the house with his wife.

As per his complaint, Walia returned home around 10 pm after taking his dog for a walk. After locking the main gate, he entered the house and found two armed men holding his wife hostage.

When he tried to intervene, two more men entered the room and overpowered him. Two of the accused allegedly carried pistols and threatened the couple before demanding cash and valuables.

Robbers fled with cash, jewellery

Fearing for their lives, the couple handed over cash, gold and silver jewellery, utensils, idols and other valuables. The stolen items were placed in a cloth bag before the accused fled.

Walia alleged in his FIR that the robbers took Rs 17-20 lakh in cash, 1.5-2 kg of gold jewellery, around 4 kg of silver ornaments, silver utensils and idols, a licensed revolver, 30 cartridges and other valuables. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 3.25 crore.

The accused also allegedly took cartridges for Walia's revolver, damaged the house's DVR and broke four CCTV cameras. They also threatened the couple with consequences if they informed police.

Police trace accused despite limited evidence

A case was registered at City Thanesar Police Station after the complaint, while the Crime Scene Team inspected the residence. Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Chander Mohan formed CIA-1 and CIA-2 teams to investigate the case.

Police said the vehicle allegedly used in the robbery had no registration number, while CCTV cameras at the house had been damaged. Despite the limited evidence, investigators identified and arrested all four accused.

Recce and planning under scanner

Preliminary investigation suggests the robbery was carefully planned, with the accused allegedly conducting a recce of the house before carrying out the crime and escaping.

Police are investigating how the accused knew about the cash and jewellery kept at the residence. The SP also said one of the arrested men was allegedly involved in an earlier theft at the same house.

Police will now examine the criminal records and previous activities of the other accused. They are expected to be produced before a court and taken on police remand for further investigation and recovery of the remaining stolen property.
