Amit Shah Urges Ahmedabad Residents to join effort for cleanest city status
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Thursday, appealed to the residents of Ahmedabad to cooperate with civic authorities in making the city the cleanest in India for the next year's Swachh Survekshan. Speaking at an event organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Bhadaj, Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth Rs 447 crore.
Ahmedabad, part of Shah’s Gandhinagar constituency, is currently striving to top the Swachh Survekshan rankings. In the 2023 survey, Indore and Surat were jointly declared the cleanest cities in the country. Shah acknowledged the challenge, saying, "The AMC aims to bring the city to the top in the Swachh Survekshan. We might not achieve it this year, but if we start now, we can be the cleanest city in the next survey."
Shah also stated that he would meet with AMC officials to formulate a plan for this goal. He urged all citizens to commit to cleanliness and support the AMC's efforts. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting a strong focus on cleanliness, linking it to health by ensuring toilets and clean drinking water in every household, following in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi.
During his visit, Shah highlighted the major developmental initiatives undertaken in his constituency, revealing that projects worth Rs 37,000 crore were approved over the last five years. This includes Rs 23,951 crore in state-approved works and Rs 14,000 crore in central government projects, encompassing roads, overbridges, hospitals, schools, libraries, gardens, and lake beautification projects. Shah expressed pride in these achievements, stating, "These developments are a significant accomplishment, and I take great pride in representing you in the Lok Sabha."
