‘They grabbed him by the neck’: Adobe techie’s mother recounts fatal attack

Vinay Gupta’s family alleged that relatives of his wife attacked him after a marital dispute, while police detained four accused

A 31-year-old software engineer working with Adobe in Noida was allegedly beaten to death at his home in outer Delhi following a marital dispute, with his mother recalling how the attack unfolded in front of her.

Vinay Gupta was at his Nihal Vihar residence when members of his wife's family allegedly arrived at the house. His mother said she initially believed they had come for a peaceful discussion and had no idea the situation would turn violent.

Mother recalls moment attack began

According to Vinay's mother, the relatives entered the house and went upstairs. She said the family did not initially suspect anything was wrong.

"The door was open, they came straight upstairs. His father said that there is no issue, they are relatives, it is fine, seat them. I said, 'son, turn on the AC, give them water'," the grieving mother told NDTV.

She said the attack began when she went to bring water for the visitors.

"I just went to give them a glass of water. They had pinned down my boy. They threw him on the bed and grabbed him by the neck. They kicked and punched him in the stomach," she said.

Vinay's parents allegedly tried to intervene but were also attacked.

"His father was thrown aside. I went to save him, and I was also thrown aside. Then I called out to neighbours here. By the time they arrived, they had finished my boy. He died on the way to the hospital. I only had one child," she said.

Vinay's father is a cancer patient.

Family alleges attack was planned

Vinay's family alleged that his wife, Rekha Gupta, called her relatives after an argument and that the attack was planned. They also alleged that the CCTV cameras had been switched off before the incident.

"Give her to us, and we will punish her with our own hands. She orchestrated his murder and left. They grabbed him by his hands, choked his throat, jumped on his chest and killed him right before my eyes within five minutes. Everything went dark before my eyes," his mother told reporters.

Vinay's sister also alleged that the attack was pre-planned.

"Within just 10 minutes, she returned with six men from her family. She led them upstairs," she said.

"It was completely pre-planned. Everything was orchestrated in advance. They refused the water, grabbed my brother by his hair, choked his throat and killed him."

Police probe underway

The couple had been married for three-and-a-half years and had two twin children, who are a few months old.

Police have detained four accused in connection with the case and are searching for a fifth person who remains absconding. A forensic team has examined the crime scene, while investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events.
