Delhi police arrest six, including two minors, for allegedly killing a man over smoking at Seelampur park

Six people, including two minors, have been apprehended for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man to death following a dispute over smoking at a park in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Subhan, was attacked with a knife during an altercation with a group of five to six boys at Central Park around 9pm, deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Rahul Alwal said. Subhan was smoking with his friend Mohsin when the group allegedly objected, triggering a scuffle that escalated into a fatal assault.

The attackers fled after allegedly stabbing Subhan, following which Mohsin rushed him to Jag Pravesh Chandra (JPC) Hospital.

Victim dies during treatment at GTB Hospital

Police received information from JPC Hospital at around 10.48pm on Tuesday that Subhan had been admitted with stab injuries. He was initially treated at the hospital in Shastri Park before being referred to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where he later died during treatment.

Following his death, police added murder charges to the case registered at Seelampur police station. The case was initially registered under sections 109(1), relating to attempt to murder, and 3(5), concerning common intention, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 103(1), which deals with murder, was subsequently added, officials said.

CCTV footage helps police identify accused

A police team examined CCTV footage from areas surrounding the park and collected evidence from multiple sources to identify those allegedly involved in the attack. Six people were apprehended within hours of the incident, officials said.

The accused were identified as Aman Khan alias Arshu, 21, Afzal Khan, 18, Abdul Momin, 18, Shoaib Mirza, 18, and two minors, both aged around 17.

Police said the knife allegedly used in the stabbing and the clothes the accused were wearing at the time of the incident have been recovered. Further investigation into the case is underway.
