India’s first three-coach Metro is coming to Delhi—check route and stations

Delhi is set to add another Metro link in South Delhi with the proposed Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor. The approximately 8-km elevated stretch is part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion and will run as part of the Golden Line.

The corridor is aimed at improving connectivity between residential, commercial and institutional areas in South Delhi. It will have eight stations and will also introduce a smaller three-coach metro train on the network.

Check route and stations

The proposed corridor will cover the following stations:

• Lajpat Nagar

• Andrews Ganj

• Greater Kailash-I

• Chirag Delhi

• Pushpa Bhawan

• Saket Court

• Pushp Vihar

• Saket G Block

The route will connect several busy neighbourhoods, including Greater Kailash-I, Pushp Vihar and Saket.

India’s first three-coach Metro

One of the key features of the corridor is the planned introduction of India’s first three-coach Metro train.

The shorter trains are being planned for a corridor where passenger demand is expected to be lower than on some of Delhi’s busier metro routes. Each train is expected to carry around 900 passengers, with capacity of approximately 300 passengers per coach.

Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Delhi to offer interchanges

Lajpat Nagar will become an important interchange point on the new corridor. The station will connect the Golden Line with the existing Violet and Pink lines, making it a triple interchange station.

Chirag Delhi will provide another connection by linking the corridor with the Magenta Line. The interchange is expected to give commuters an additional option for travelling between South Delhi and other parts of the capital.

Ridership expected to grow

The corridor is expected to see substantial ridership because of its access to densely populated residential areas and locations that attract large numbers of commuters.

Delhi Metro has estimated daily ridership at around 60,000-80,000 passengers initially. This is projected to rise beyond 1.2 lakh by 2041 as train frequency improves. These are projections and not actual passenger numbers.

Construction began in December 2025

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) started construction on the corridor in December 2025. The first test pile and groundbreaking ceremony were held near Pushpa Bhawan in the Saket area.

The Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block stretch is part of the wider Golden Line expansion, which also includes the Tughlaqabad-Aerocity corridor.
