IIT Delhi student dies by suicide on campus
A 31-year-old M.Sc Physics student at IIT Delhi died after allegedly jumping from a building on the campus on Saturday morning, police said.
According to preliminary inquiry, the deceased had entered the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi campus through the main gate around 8 am. He subsequently went to the Lecture Hall Complex and took a lift to the sixth floor.
He then allegedly jumped from the front side of the building, a senior officer said.
The student was rushed to the institute's campus hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
A PCR call regarding the incident was received around 8:30 am at Kishangarh police station, following which a police team reached the IIT Delhi campus.
A crime team and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) unit were called to collect evidence.
No suicide note has been recovered from the spot, the officer said, adding that a mobile phone was found in the deceased's pocket and would be examined.
Prima facie, no injury marks other than those attributable to the fall have been found on the body, police said.
Police are obtaining the student's counselling records and other relevant information from the institute as part of the investigation. The circumstances leading to the student's death are being examined and all available information is being verified, police said.
