Delhi’s big noise-control plan: Green buffers, mounds and quieter roads
Creating green buffers using trees, mounds and embankments along major roads are among the measures to be taken to reduce noise pollution under the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2047, which was unveiled on Thursday.
The long-term strategy also envisages changes in the design and surface materials of roads and pavements to help reduce noise, besides identifying environmentally stressed zones in the national capital.
The measures are part of the environmental strategies outlined in the MPD 2047, which envisions Delhi as a "green, climate-resilient and globally competitive capital city" with improved liveability and environmental quality.
Under the strategy, an Action Plan for Noise Pollution is to be prepared and implemented by the Delhi government or in accordance with any other guidelines recommended by the government from time to time.
The MPD 2047 places environmental sustainability among its defining pillars and seeks to strengthen Delhi's green network, improve environmental quality and enhance urban liveability.
The Master Plan is a long-term framework aimed at transforming Delhi into a world-class, inclusive, sustainable and economically vibrant capital city, with a focus on environmental sustainability, modern infrastructure and improved quality of life.
