Delhi wakes up to rain chaos: Waterlogging, traffic jams hit several areas

Delhi woke up to another spell of rain on Tuesday morning, with showers affecting several parts of the national capital and causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions in multiple areas.

The fresh spell comes a day after heavy rainfall had already caused widespread waterlogging and traffic problems across Delhi-NCR. The previous day's weather also disrupted air travel, with several flights being diverted.

IMD forecasts more rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rain at many places across Delhi on Tuesday. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations.

The weather department has further warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the national capital.

The forecast has kept the possibility of further disruption on the roads, particularly in areas that have already experienced water accumulation after the recent spells of rain.

Safdarjung records rainfall

At Safdarjung, the temperature stood at 26.6 degree Celsius at 5:30 am on Tuesday, while humidity was recorded at 100 per cent.

The weather station recorded 3 mm of rainfall at 8:30 am, according to the IMD.

With more rain expected during the day, commuters may face difficult road conditions in several parts of the city.

Airport issues advisory

The Indira Gandhi International Airport also issued a passenger advisory at 7:20 am, citing inclement weather conditions in the vicinity of the airport.

The airport said flight operations were currently normal, but asked passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information.

The advisory comes after weather-related disruptions affected flights across Delhi-NCR on Monday, when several flights were diverted amid heavy rain.

The IMD's forecast of further showers, along with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, means weather conditions could remain unsettled in the capital through the day.

For commuters, the immediate concern remains waterlogging and traffic movement as another round of rain moves across Delhi.
