Delhi shutdown today? Check schools, offices and Metro status amid BRICS Summit

Delhi residents can expect changes to their usual Friday routine as the capital hosts the 18th BRICS Summit. Several schools and government offices will remain closed on September 11, while traffic restrictions are set to affect parts of the city as foreign leaders and their delegations travel through Delhi.

The closures and curbs are part of arrangements for the two-day summit being held at Bharat Mandapam.

Are schools closed in Delhi today?

Yes. Government, government-aided and private schools across Delhi will remain closed on Friday.

The Directorate of Education announced the holiday in an order issued on September 5. The decision applies to schools and offices under its jurisdiction and follows an earlier directive from the Delhi government's General Administration Department.

Which offices will remain shut?

Private companies have not been directed to close and can continue to operate as usual.

However, offices of the Centre and Delhi government, along with autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings (PSUs), will remain closed on September 11.

The Supreme Court will also remain closed on Friday. Its Administrative General Branch has declared the day a holiday for the court and its Registry, according to a LiveLaw report. The Registry will remain closed on September 12 as well.

Traffic restrictions from 2 pm

Traffic movement is expected to become more difficult from the afternoon, with the Delhi Traffic Police imposing restrictions between 2 pm and 8:30 pm on Friday.

"Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, use public transport, especially the Metro, and follow designated diversion routes and instructions from traffic personnel," the traffic police wrote on X. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage.

Several major roads, including Sardar Patel Marg, Mathura Road, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Africa Avenue Road and Niti Marg, will be affected.

Despite the traffic curbs, Delhi Metro services will remain fully operational at all stations on September 11, according to the Delhi Traffic Police.
