Delhi Police removes Jantar Mantar from list of protest venues, names three alternatives

Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground named as Delhi's new protest venues

Jantar Mantar has been de-notified as a designated venue for protests and demonstrations in Delhi, according to a Delhi Police circular issued on Monday. The order identifies three alternative locations for organising public demonstrations: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground.

The circular said the Ministry of Home Affairs had constituted a committee to examine suitable alternative venues that would allow citizens to exercise their right to organise protests and demonstrations in place of the existing designated site.

Three alternative venues designated

Based on the committee's recommendations, Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated protest venues, the circular stated. Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground have been designated as the new locations for organising protests and demonstrations.

Revised guidelines to be issued separately

The Delhi Police circular said detailed and revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing the organisation of protests and demonstrations at the three newly designated venues would be issued separately. The circular did not provide further details about the revised procedures.
